Perth's Best Kid-Friendly Cafes Where You Can Actually Relax
Let's be real: "going for coffee" with kids is a completely different sport to going for coffee without kids. You need a venue where the little ones are entertained enough that you might — might — get to drink your flat white while it's still hot. Here are Perth's best cafes where kids are welcome, play areas exist, and the coffee is actually worth drinking.
Cafes With Dedicated Play Areas
The Treehouse Café — Leederville
This one is a genuine parent favourite. An enclosed outdoor play area with a sandpit, cubby house, and climbing frame means you can see the kids from your table while sipping a very decent latte. The menu is solid too — think proper brunch fare, not just reheated pies.
Play area: Enclosed outdoor, visible from seating | Coffee: Excellent — local specialty roaster | Kids' menu: Yes | Top tip: Get there before 9am on weekends
Little Sisto — North Perth
Italian-inspired menu, gorgeous fit-out, and a kids' corner with books and toys. The food is exceptional — house-made pasta, incredible pastries, and the kind of coffee that makes you close your eyes and sigh.
Play area: Indoor corner with toys and books | Coffee: Outstanding | Kids' menu: Smaller portions of the regular menu
The Grocer & The Chef — Mt Lawley
A spacious cafe with a beautiful courtyard that has a small play area for kids. The menu changes with the seasons and everything is made from scratch.
Play area: Courtyard with small play equipment | Coffee: Very good | Kids' menu: Yes
Beach & Park Cafes
The Shorehouse — Swanbourne
Right on the beachfront with unreal ocean views. The kids can play on the beach while you eat, and there's a grassed area for running around. The fish tacos are legendary.
Play area: The entire beach! | Coffee: Good | Kids' menu: Yes | Top tip: Bring towels and a change of clothes
Harvest Espresso — South Perth
Tucked near the South Perth foreshore, this little gem is perfect for a post-playground coffee. Hit the Sir James Mitchell Park playground first to tire the kids out, then pop in for what is genuinely one of the best coffees in Perth.
Play area: Adjacent park and playground | Coffee: Exceptional — consistently rated among Perth's best
Island Market — Scarborough
Right near Scarborough Beach, Island Market has an open, airy vibe with plenty of space for prams and kids. The revamped Scarborough Beach foreshore has incredible free water play and beach access.
Play area: Scarborough foreshore playground (short walk) | Coffee: Good, with specialty options | Kids' menu: Yes
Suburban Hidden Gems
Mary Street Bakery — Multiple Locations
Not specifically a "kid-friendly cafe" but their larger locations have space for prams and are very welcoming. The pastries and doughnuts are next-level — the kids will lose their minds over the Nutella doughnut.
Play area: No dedicated area — bring a colouring kit | Coffee: Excellent | Kids' menu: Pastries, toasties, smaller meals
Moore & Moore — Fremantle
Set in an old warehouse building with a big leafy courtyard, Moore & Moore has an artsy, relaxed feel that somehow works perfectly with kids. It also doubles as an art gallery.
Play area: Courtyard with room to explore | Coffee: Very good | Kids' menu: Simple, healthy options
The Parent's Cafe Checklist
Before you load everyone into the car, here's our quick check:
• Does the cafe have space for your pram?
• Is there an enclosed outdoor area? (For runners.)
• Do they have high chairs?
• Is the coffee actually good? (You deserve this.)
• Can the kids eat something that isn't deep-fried?
• Can you see the play area from your seat? (Non-negotiable.)
